Crossing Labrador

We’re back to Canada again, this time with Northern Scavenger. They paddle Esquif canoes on some pretty spectacular adventures. This one has some great film on the preparation for the expedition, as well as the expedition itself. Check out their website and video series.

Life of Les Voyageur

Les Voyageur transported furs and other goods down the rivers and across Lake Superior in 18th and 19th centuries using huge birch bark canoes. These French-Canadians are regarded as some of the toughest outdoorspeople ever, and they could move a canoe and its cargo over water or land like few others. Ojibwe Canoes

It has bits about history, construction, traditional symbols, and also chronicles the construction of a new canoe by an Ojibwe builder. Wood on Water

A beautiful video that follows a group of young women on a 400 mile trip in Northern Quebec as part of the tripping program at Keewaydin, a Maine camp. If you don’t think a modern teenager could possibly portage an 80 lb canoe day after day through swarms of mosquitos and come up laughing, click on the image to watch and be inspired.
