The Maine Canoe Symposium Team has cancelled the in-person event at Bryant Pond. The Team is now working on the feasibility of a series of on-line events/content to share educational and engaging content about all things canoeing. Stand by for updates.
If you’re even thinking about thinking about canoeing, or if you’re an experienced canoeist looking to spend a weekend with folks in love with the sport, or if you’re somewhere in between, the Maine Canoe Symposium is where you want to be on this weekend in June. And particularly if you’re a family who want to introduce your kids to the fun and beauty of being on the water, this is your place - canoes are the most versatile watercraft for families of all ages.
At the MCS you’ll participate in workshops on water and land that will cover paddling, safety skills outdoor cooking, camping, paddling with families, trip planning and a myriad of other topics. The Maine Canoe Symposium also offers a children's program which includes kid-friendly canoeing and wilderness related experiences.
I’m going up for my fourth year - the instructors are great, the paddling is fun, and the people are friendly and welcoming. It’s just a great event. Here’s a link to their website for more info.
Established in 1986, the Maine Canoe Symposium is a volunteer-run, non-profit, weekend event. The Symposium encourages participants of all ages to develop an understanding and appreciation of the diversity of North American canoeing heritage and to develop canoeing and related skills through educational workshops, presentations, and hands-on instruction.
